Today in History

July 29, 1862 -- Belle Boyd, Confederate spy, is arrested by Union troops and detained at the Old Capitol Prison in Washington, D.C.

She was ratted out by her supposed lover.  Not much love if he is willing to turn her in.

Gun trumps knife!

Gun carrying man ends stabbing spree at grocery store

Man buys a knife at the store and then "turns it into a weapon" and starts stabbing people.

People are getting worse out there!

Range time

Mr. Tea and I had the opportunity to go to the range this morning.  Gotta love those impromptu dates!

I became rather frustrated with  myself after the first 40 rounds.  At the range we go to, you have the ability to post two targets up at 7 yards.  I had one straight in front of me and what slightly to my left.  I could hardly get a shot to hit the black on the target that was straight in front of me, but was fine on the target to my left.  I was like "WTF???"  Straight ahead, I was shooting low, but turning slightly to my left, was having nice tight groupings.  I put my gun down and took a step back and breathed.  Stepped back to the bench and tried again.  SAME FREAKING THING!  Okay, took another breath and adjusted my stance.  Somewhat better, but still not what I usually do at the range.

Of course, while all this is going on, my sweet Mr. Tea* kept telling me to breathe and not worry about it.  I appreciate the sentiment, but I NEED to figure out what I am doing different and correct it. LOL

I am still not 100% what was going on, but I angled my stance more and was finally able to get most of my last 10 rounds into the center of the straight on target.  At least I ended on a better note, although I feel I need to spend some more time at the range to work "this" particular kink out.

**I have mentioned before that I am my own worst critic, but I honestly know I can do better than what I was doing today!

I might not have been to the range, but I have been busy!

Well, it started with this:

This is some watermelon jelly that I had been wanting to make for awhile.  So, with DD begged for a watermelon at the grocery store I decided "why not!" LOL  But there is a thing that happens when I start canning..... I. CAN. NOT. STOP! LOL

So, I started looking online for some "different" jam and jelly recipes.....which resulted in this:

These are the ingredients for Margarita Jelly and Strawberry Daiquiri Jam.

Which turned into these:

After those, I then decided to restock my supply of Jalapeno Jelly here.

And then..... I ended the day with Kiwi Daiquiri Jam.

I have been busy!

SOAR ALBA

The Battle of Falkirk, (Blàr na h-Eaglaise Brice in Gaelic) which took place on 22 July 1298, was one of the major battles in the First War of Scottish Independence. Led by King Edward I of England, the English army defeated the Scots, led byWilliam Wallace. Shortly after the battle Wallace resigned as Guardian of Scotland.

Today in History

1861 – In the First Battle of Bull Run, the first major land battle in the American Civil War, the Confederate Army under Joseph E. Johnston and P. G. T. Beauregard routed Union Army troops under Irvin McDowell.

I live rather close to this battlefield and have walked it many times.  I also wonder how long it will be before another civil war breaks out in our country.  Makes a person think!

The tragedy that happened in Colorado

So much has been posted over the internet via news outlets and blogs that anything I write would be redundant.

All I will say is that this is such a heart wrenching tragedy and my thoughts and prayers go out to ALL that have been affected by the acts of this sick person.

It does not matter what tool he choose to use, the damage is the same.

RIP to the lost family members of Aurora, Colorado.

Actually it is more like in the early hours of Friday morning, but no matter how you term it, HE IS COMING HOME!

That is all.....

Evidence of a Change in Mindset

So we went to Kings Dominion yesterday and battled the rain. (An amusement park outside of Richmond)

During one of the thunderstorms we took shelter in a souvenir shop.

This shop had a display of toy guns and rifles. Nothing big there except for my reaction to how the little kids were playing with them! It was all I could do to keep myself from telling them to stop pointing them at people! Didn't they know the "four rules" and that you never point a gun at something or someone that you are not willing to destroy!!!

Not sure how that would have gone over with the little angels parents. :)

I just got out of there as soon as the rain let up to a light drizzle and went to see a show.

Made it to the range today...

Not bad when it had been almost a month since I had last shot.

Oh...and these are the bullets I loaded myself. :-)

Bullets

A couple weeks ago, I posted about Mr. Tea and the neighbor talking bullets and reloading.  I wrote about how it was "Greek" to me.  Well, guess what I did this evening????  Come on, guess!!!

Not the best picture, mainly because it was hot and I was not expecting to be photographed, but there I am RELOADING!

Isn't that neat?  I had a few hiccups, but it got easier as I went along.

Aren't they pretty?

Finished product.  My first 100 rounds of reloads. :-)

4th of July

Hello everyone!

I hope you are having a great day.  We here at the glen at spending the day with family and friends.  Mr. Tea is using the day off to do some reloading. :-)
