I have not died....

I am just extremely busy!

I started teaching 3rd grade this year, while finishing up my Master's degree.

I have not been doing much of anything else!

I hope to post more as things die down a bit!

Glock 42

Yes, this XD girl actually likes the new Glock 42!

I have not liked the 380's I have shot in the past.  Mainly because they HURT!

That said, my dear sweet husband has been wanting the new Glock since he heard it was coming out....and this past weekend he did just so....   Today we went to the range to try that baby out.  He loved it. (not surprising)  I LOVED it... (really a surprise!)

I have never been a fan of how a Glock feels in my hand.  Just did not feel "right," but I have to say that the new Glock felt good in my hand and I was able to shoot it rather decently.

Here is a picture from today.  Not the best quality, but it's what I can give ya. :-)

That was a fail!

Okay, so I fell short on my challenge, but I will still continue to post daily from today on.....

Friday was spent at Kings Dominion with the grandson.  He had a blast and we recovered. LOL
Saturday was spent recovery from said adventure and preparing for my intensive class this week at Liberty.

Sunday was spent also getting assignments done and driving down to Lynchburg.  I will admit that blogging was the last thing on my mind the last three days.

I will do better even though the posts will probably be short due to class and homework. :-)

What was under YOUR car today? -- Day 3

This little guy was under mine.  He chilled there for awhile, and then decided to go on his merry way.... :-)

First Competition Results--Day 2 of My 31 Day July Challenge

I went to my first competition this past Saturday, June 28th.  It was a long range challenge match with distances ranging from 530 yards up to over 1100 yards.

It was only the second time I had ever shot this particular rifle let alone trying to shoot at these distances, so my only goal was to just hit at least one target.  I am happy to say I surpassed my goal by three! :-)  My longest successful shot was at 859 yards, which was awesome!

I am also proud to say that I did not come in last, but 41st place out of a field of 43 competitors.  I might just have to do more challenges in different areas of shooting!

This from the first section.  These are the "close" targets ranging between 530-600 yards.

Challenging myself

I am going to post each day of July.

Since I have not gone to bed yet, I am counting this as still the first day! :-)

My day

So, I am going to my first long distance match on the 28th of this month.  Since I am going to be in a match, I should shoot the gun before hand....

This is what I shot today:

Since the farthest I can shoot locally is only 100 yards we figured it was at least better than nothing.  I at least got used to the scope, using a bean bag for support, and all that fun stuff.

Here is how I did:

I think I did very well for a first time at this distance and this rifle. :-)

School's out for the summer.....

At least the one that I work at.  I cannot say the same for MY classes. LOL

This will give me some more time to do my classwork though, and get the range more often. (Hopefully!)

About a month ago I got a new vehicle, a Jeep Cherokee.  These just came in today:

My wonderful DH got these for me.  The tags say "MY 45XDS."  I put them on as soon as I got a screwdriver after the mail came! LOL

Oh.... I will be going to my first long range shoot later this month.  Will post pictures afterwards.

Gun Show

So, I worked the Capital Gun Show this past Saturday.  I had a BALL!  I got to talk to a lot of really nice people and only one jerk. LOL

I don't usually talked about people like that, but this guy fits the bill.  I was "working" the handguns area and after this gentleman had spent a few minutes looking at them, I asked them if there was anything I could help him with (since I had the key to unlock any he might want to look at closer), and his response "I will ask him (pointing to the gentleman behind the table and on the other side of the area) if I need something."  I did not think anything of it and told my other guy about it thinking it was a friend, but he had never seen the guy before.  I guess he just did not want to "talk guns" to a woman!  Oh well... his loss.

Next gun show I will be working will be June 7th!  Come by and see me. :-)

Been way too long.....

got out to the range today.

Not my best, but certainly not my worst.  This is a combo of my 45 and my 9.  I think I could get the job done if needed.

Snow Days...

Well tomorrow will be the another snow day.  At this rate we will never finish this school year. LOL

I am changing my menu plan for tomorrow.  I had planned it to be a leftovers night to clean out the fridge, but since we have been home, there as not as many leftovers to clean out.  Also, with it being so cold out, I decided to fulfill my youngest DS' request to make chili.  So, tomorrow will be venison chili slow cooked on the stove for hours.  That way all the flavors will have time to thoroughly blend.  I might just make a pan of cornbread to go with it. :-)

Ouch!

I apologize for seeming to disappear like that.  I had not planned to be gone from blogger for over a month!

Not that it is an excuse, but I have been very busy with being a wife, a mom, a full time employee, and a full time student.  These graduate classes are kicking my butt!  I will have to mini-brag and say that I still have A's in both of the ones going on right now and only have two weeks to go on them, so hopefully it stays that way!

I have been really having to remind myself that all this work is worth it in the end.  I have just been dealing with some inner frustration on not having my own classroom yet.  I know it will happen, but I am not known for being the most patient of people.

Hopefully next school year I can add funny classroom adventure stories to this blog. :-)

Dinner Last Night

Honey Garlic Chicken in the slow cooker.

I did not have chicken thighs, so I used breasts, but other than that I followed the recipe.  I always try and follow a new recipe exactly the first time and then make adjustments after the first try.

I thought I had boneless skinless thighs, but found out I was mistaken. LOL  It was a winner!  I served it with rice and couscous so people could have a choice although most chose both. :-)

I love when I find another slow cooker recipe to add to my list of options.  With my classes starting back up this week, my slow cookers will be getting used A LOT!

Dinner Tonight

I like to make pizza.  My problem is that I can never find a crust recipe that we like, until now...

I was watching "The Pioneer Woman" on the food channel this morning and she made pizza.  The recipe for her crust was super easy compared to ones I have done in the past so I decided to try it!

It is a keeper.  I did not make ours just like hers, but I did use her crust recipe and baked at the temp she did.  I highly recommend it!

January 7th is

National Tempura Day!  Yeah, that is interesting. LOL

Here are a few of the recipes that are featured:

I missed yesterday.

It was just one of those days that computer time was minimal.

So... on January 6th, 1540, King Henry VIII married Anne of Cleves.

Anne of Cleves was the Queen of England for a little over 6 months.  King Henry had their marriage annulled on the claim that it was never consummated.

I guess she should be happy she was allowed to live, since that was not the case with most of his wives........

On this date....

In 1873 Japan begins using the Gregorian calendar.  Or what we just consider "the calendar." LOL

From Wiki:

Most western European countries changed the start of the year to January 1 before they adopted the Gregorian calendar. For example, Scotland changed the start of the Scottish New Year to January 1 in 1600. England, Ireland and the British colonies changed the start of the year to January 1 in 1752. Later that year in September, the Gregorian calendar was introduced throughout Britain and the British colonies. These two reforms were implemented by the Calendar (New Style) Act 1750.

It is interesting to read.  I never thought much about it before.  I knew there were other "calendars" and other New Years, but I learned something.  Pretty cool.
