Victim's final minutes caught on store surveillance.
I am not sure if having a gun would have prevented it, but I like to think that it would have. Especially if she had shot him with it.

This is not news to most of us.....
More and more women embracing gun ownership
This is a nice and respectful news article about how women that like guns can also be "girly!" LOL I didn't know people had a different idea of what female shooters were like.
Holster Review -- Remora
I read about this holster on That Texas Lady's blog. It was a very informative review that had me considering a purchase from Remora. Before I could make an order, I found out that my wonderful DH had already ordered me one after reading her review!
So here it is (and the gun that it is for):
It is a reinforced opening style and fits my Springfield XDm 9mm compact nicely. (DH also likes the fact that it is the same size that would fit his Glock 19, in case I did not like it!)
When I first started using this holster, I wore an undershirt between my skin and my waistband. This was a mistake on my part. I could not get the holster to stay in place unless I fastened my belt really tight, which kind of defeated the purpose of this type of holster. I was starting to get disheartened!
Then I decided to use it without the undershirt..... ding ding ding... that worked. I love this holster and it is the one I use about 99% of the time now.
Simple, durable and versatile! Now.... I plan to save up and get some of the magazine holsters!

Interesting Change.....
When I first got my ccp, I felt weird carrying my gun. Now, I feel weird when I don't carry it!
Now, I plan ahead for places that will not allow carrying (which thankfully are few, so far). I have even shopped elsewhere, paying a tad more, so that I don't have to lock it away. I have changed alot since I started carrying, but in subtle ways. At least I think they are subtle.
How have your changed since carrying?

My Story...
Recently the wonderful lady from A Girl and Her Gun asked me if I would like to write "my story" for her. She likes to post the stories behind why different women started carrying their guns or at least what brought them into actively shooting on a regular basis.
Since I wrote a small blurb about my story at the beginning of this blog, I figured I would post here what I sent to A Girl and Her Gun:
My“gun” story. That sounds rather ominous, doesn’t it? LOL There isnot a LOT to my story really, no close call with danger, no epiphany onpersonal safety, just a spouse that started going to a range and a wife wantingto join in.
I grew up in ahunting family. Guns were not something that was viewed as “taboo” in myhome, but I really had no interest in them. I remember shooting one of mydad’s rifles when I was about 10 and it leaving a big bruise on my shoulder.LOL
Fast forward manyyears and now I am a wife and mother. DH was a semi-regular hunter withrifles and a couple handguns locked away at his mother’s house. They werekept there most of the time since she had a cabinet with a lock and we did not. I was never anti-gun or even squeamish to have them in the house withkids, because we always taught our kids that guns were NOT toys and to respectthem. We just never had the room at our old townhouse to safely storethem at the time.
After moving outto a more rural area, where we had a larger home with some land, DH startedhunting more with our neighbor. Started hunting with a bow and reallyembracing a more “outdoor” lifestyle. So, when DH decided to start goingto the local range in the spring of 2011, we eventually all went with him. I became pretty proficient with a 22, but never really liked any of his9mm’s. I just was not comfortable with them. I did not like the waythey handled for me. After months of trying out different guns, whichincluded the new Glock 19 my DH purchased for himself, I finally found mySpringfield Armory XDm 9mm.
That was in Augustof this year (2011), since DH wanted me to get my CCP. I told him that Ineeded a gun that I felt comfortable with, if I was going to carry it aroundfrom protection. So... I am now the proud owner of my own handgun and aconceal carry permit.
That is my story. I am just your average mom who is proud to exercise her 2nd Amendmentright to carry the means for personal protection, almost, every where I go. (The places I can not carry are for a whole post of its own. LOL)

I am feeling so conflicted...
I have never considered myself a "Glock" person, but I will admit that I am coveting my husband's new Glock 23. LOL
I usually only shoot my Springfield Armory XDm 9mm. I love it and shoot decently with it, but when my sweetie asked me if I wanted to try is new 40 caliber I said "sure." Oh my....I shot 10 rounds and it was SO smooth! At least 7 of the 10 rounds were in the 8-10 rings of the target!
Now I want to try out the XDm 40 caliber model. LOL My wish lists look some much different than they did a year ago. :-)

My DH
My DH is getting a new Glock 23. We should be picking it up this Saturday. I am not a fan of Glocks. I know, to some that is blasphemy, but I just never got comfortable with his 19.
Now, once my Springfield XDm 3.8 was put in my hand....and then when I shot it...it was a perfect match. :-)
So, I guess I am saying is that you need to find the gun that works for YOU!

In the last 48 hours I have gotten two new iwb (in waist band) holsters. I will review them both after I use them a bit. :-)

Tragedy at VA Tech Again....
http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/va-tech-police-officer-killed-15114522#.TuK4tmOVrMY
My prayers go out to the families affected by this most recent incident on the campus. I am always saddened when the actions of a person with some sort of emotional issue affect others. At times like this we always seem to stop and think about the frailties of the human body, and the levels of evil that people can achieve.
What is even sadder is that there are some that actually blamed the handgun involved in this incident INSTEAD of the man that did the shooting!
The president of Virginia Tech stated that "once again guns have brought violence to our campus." Umm... sorry, but that gun did not walk itself onto the campus and it certainly did not single out the officer to shoot him!
This is just another example of how those in the anti-gun side will use scare tactics and fear mongering to try and get their way.
I have come to the conclusion that I will never again worry about what anyone might think about me carrying concealed. I will carry and feel secure in the fact that I am doing all I can to protect myself and those around me.

College Campus and Concealed Carry
Should it be allowed? The responses to this question seem to run the full spectrum of emotions.
Some feel that NO guns should be allowed on campus. Which seems really good in theory, but the problem is that the only ones that would follow that law is the ones that would not be out to shoot up the place to begin with. Those that are having some sort of mental issue will not care if the firearms are permitted or not, they will bring them anyways.
I feel that if a person has fulfilled the requirements set up by their state in order to conceal carry, then they should be allowed to exercise that right wherever they go.
What are your thoughts?

Today's happenings.....
Nice time at the range today. Working on my isosceles stance. I am comfortable with a modified weaver, but I feel I should become comfortable with both stances.
I must admit that I did better with my target than I expected when I switched stances!
I also did something outside my comfort zone today..... I finally carried with "one in the chamber!" I know, that might not seem like a lot to some of you, but it was this mental step that I was having trouble with. It was all in my mind, but that didn't make it any less serious. But I did it and I (and all others) survived! :-)

The Four Universal Rules of Gun Handling:
1. Treat ALL guns as if they are loaded, always!
2. Never point a gun at anything you don't want to destroy or kill.
3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire.
4. Always be absolutely sure of your target and what is behind it.

Why a handgun you may ask?
People might wonder what it was that caused my interest in handguns and shooting?
When I applied for my concealed carry permit, the court clerk asked me if there had been an incident that caused me to want to carry. I explained to her that there had not been one, but I wanted to have the ability to carry if I so chose. I never want to have to use my gun, but I also like to know that it is there if I ever need it. What is that saying, "When seconds count, the police are only minutes away." I want more options at my disposal.
