Goodbye 2013

A lot has happened in 2013.  I get an unexpected call stating that I am being transferred to another school, which was not a happy moment.  I like who I work with, but I am not happy with WHAT I am doing.

I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and even began my Master's program.  I am also still working as an instructional assistant and not a teacher. :-(

This year welcomed a new grand niece and THREE, yes three new granddaughters.

I am overall happy with 2013 and look forward to whatever 2014 has to offer!

Introducing the newest grandbabies!

This is Kimberly and Brianna.

They decided to come earlier than planned, but healthy nonetheless!

Please keep in mind that I had not had a lot of sleep and had worked all day the day this picture was taken. :-)

The Snow of December 2013

We do not normally get snow this time of year.  So when it happens this early in the season, it is a treat.

First day:
But that was only the beginning......

And more....

Went shooting yesterday!

It was SO nice to get out there and put some holes in some paper!

It took a few rounds to get my grove back, but that happens when it has been months since I been to a range.

After everyone had been shooting awhile, our host and some of the other guests brought out some "fun" guns.  I shot a few neat items, one from Serbia that was kind of like a SK47, but in hand gun form.  It was nice.

This one was really fun!
Smith and Wesson 500 Magnum!  Or as I dubbed it, "the hand cannon!"

Three other gentlemen shot it besides me, and here is the results:

DH kept telling everyone that I "reamed his hole," which sounds really dirty, but oh well.  I think I held my own with the "boys!"

Tidbits and other stuff

I am finally getting my XDs into the mail because of the recall.  Yeah... I am a procrastinator!

Two weeks from today will be a nice "shootfest" at a friends house.  He has five acres and his own range, so it will be nice to get out and shoot!

I am also going to start building my long term preps again.  Yeah, I have been slacking.  I have been searching the web for different "weekly" lists and I think I will make up my own.  I will post when I decide on one and will also post as I start rebuilding my preps.

Ouch

I had not realized it had been almost TWO months since I posted.

I will admit that since my graduate classes started I have not had much time to do anything...but I will do better.

My Graduation Gift

from my wonderful DH!

Isn't she a beauty!

I am taking her to the range tomorrow.  I am so excited!

"A Good Day to Die Hard" movie review

Uugh..... this was a waste of an hour and a half.

Yes, the special effects were good, but that was about it.

Haven't died....

But I am finishing up my Bachelor's degree by taking 5 8-week courses ending next week....so I have not been doing much of anything besides school work.

I hope to be blogging more after July 5th or 7th.  I also hope to get to a range after that also.....

How's That College Thing Going?

Spring semester ending yesterday, and Summer semester started today.

This is my last semester for my bachelor's degree.  Whew.... I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Of course, the Master's program starts in the Fall.........

I think I can, I think I can........ :-D

Tuesday, May 7, 2013

It's been two weeks.....

Not much has been happening.  I have been finishing up my college classes, gearing up for end of the year testing at work, and with ammo in short supply, not much at the range either.

I hope to post more soon, so stay tuned!

One of the Biggest Mistakes in History!

On this day in 1985, The Coca-Cola Company introduced "New Coke" to replace its flagship soft drink Coca-Cola, which generated so much negative response that the company put the previous formula back on the market less than three months later.

New Coke was just nasty!

Range Day (4-14-2013)

So after I pouted last time my family got to go shooting without me, our neighbor arranged for us to go this past Sunday.

I think I am ruined for paper targets!  This is what we got to shoot at:

The sound of that ting when the bullet hits is AMAZING!  Of course it's also fun to "duel" against others. :-)

Here is DH and our neighbor getting ready to have a go at the tree:

Here is one of yours truly dueling with my youngest son:

He's not bad, but he had to use his father's Glock and he prefers my XDm. LOL

He did get to shoot our neighbors .45

Here is my youngest.  She did not like the "kick" of our guns, so she just enjoyed the woods and contemplated life. LOL

I also found out what my next gun will be.  Our neighbor brought his new XDs .45 and I got to use it.  I loved it!

I told DH that that will be my next major purchase. :-)

Busy times

It has been a busy two weeks here.

I was able to get to the range once and will post pics about that later.

Classes are coming to a close and that means end of term tests and papers.  Of course, then  my final undergraduate semester starts and I will be VERY busy then.

I am still around though!

Red Dawn (2012)

Last night was a movie night at the Tea household.  I was able to reserve Red Dawn at a Redbox location and made the family happy. :-)

While they watched, I watched and did schoolwork.  Yeah, not the best example for the kids, but I pulled the "I'm an adult" card and on went the movie. LOL

I was pleasantly impressed with it.  I vaguely remember the 1984 version and was not sure I wanted to see the remake.  Of course, since I only vaguely remembered the older version was probably a good thing, since I was not comparing the two. LOL

Of course, we spotted some tactical errors, or at least things we would have done differently, but movies are usually like that. LOL  Over all I liked the message it presented and will highly suggest it to others!

Kids and Guns

I am posting some pictures today of my kids at the range in support of the New Jersey family that had their rights violated because of a facebook picture.  I know the story has made the blog rounds, so I won't go into details, but here is a link to the story in case you want to read about it. Boy with his gun.

These are about two years old, so they were... GASP.... 11 and 9 when these were taken.

I posted some pictures of a recent outing with my now 13 year old shooting here.

They would have a fit with the calibers he was shooting that day!

Day at the Range....

We were able to go to our neighbor's friend's land to shoot.  He has a 100 yard range area and a smaller one set up for handguns.  It was way back in the woods and a wonderful place:

and

We shot my DH's Remington 30-06:

We were shooting at two iron plates and I LOVED it.  There is just something about hearing that "ping" when the target is hit!

Next we got to shoot our neighbor's Sako TRG-22 .308 with a suppressor.  It was wonderful!  Here are the pictures of us shooting it:

First my love:

Then my son:
I really liked how I was able to get the smoke coming from the barrel on this shot!
Here I am shooting this wonderful piece of machinery!

We also put some rounds through our handguns, but I did not get any pictures of those.  I did get to try out my next gun purchase though.  Our neighbor recently bought the Springfield XDs .45 and I got to try it today.  I am in LOVE!  Great grip and no recoil.  I need to start saving now!

In closing here is a video of my son shooting the 30-06 and hitting the target.

Going to shoot today.

It has been too long!

Oh No.....

I am posting on Huffington Post again and I have a real loser, I mean winner going.

So far I have been told to "shove my NRA report," but since I never mentioned the NRA OR a report, I asked if they are 15 or something for actually telling me to shove something. LOL

Oh well.... LOL

Quote of the Day

My interest is in the future because I am going to spend the rest of my life there.
Charles Kettering

Friday, February 15, 2013

“Life is life. You are not god.”

So, because I am willing to protect myself and my family with lethal measures, I am trying to be "god."  Or at least that is one user on Huffington Post wants people to believe!  The title of this post is one of the responses I got in out little exchange about the assistant coach in Detroit that killed one of the males that attempted to rob him.

It started when this person posted that no amount of money is worth a person's life and the guy should not have shot the "kid" and there was nothing mentioned in the article that either of the "kids" were armed. (paraphrased)  I responded with the following:

“Other news reports state that the criminal killed did have a gun and was already awaiting trial for ARMED robbery.

This was not just some kid who made "a mistake," he was already making crime his profession.

I don't care how much money I have on me, if you threaten me in order to get it, I will shoot.”

Then I was told that if I am against abortion then that would be ironic, to which I posted;  “How in the world is that ironic?  An unborn child is not threatening my life, whereas a CRIMINAL that threatens me with bodily harm is...”

Some people have really twisted ideas because then their next response was:

“Human life, dude.  If you hold human life sacred, then it's sacred in every form.  It's sacred when it's sinning, and it's sacred when it's in a state of innocence.  What or who gives you the right to make that ultimate judgement?  Isn't that what anti-abortionists call playing god?”

This person is really warped.  Actually, they have just drank the anti's koolaid where we are all supposed to be victims.  But being the antagonist patient person than I am, I tried to reason with him, so I posted:

"So are you saying that the criminal's life is MORE sacred than mine? I do hold life as sacred, but if someone threatened my life or one of my loved ones, then they have shown that they do not hold the same value.
They are still not on the same level as an unborn child."

To which his response was the title of my post:  "Life is life.  You are not god."  You just can not undrink the koolaid sometimes!

The next post was mine where I reiterated my position, "So I should let the criminal kill me or my family?
Then that would make the criminal "god." Sorry, I value life too much to let someone else take mine or my family's."

He then proved that he does not read or comprehend because he posted: "Sorry, but unless you have new information about the teens being armed, you are indiscriminately taking human life to protect property, not life."

To which I pointed him to another news source with a link: "Read other sources besides huffpost.http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/Detroit-basketball-coach-not-in-police-custody-after-deadly-shooting-in-school-parking-lot/-/1719418/18404660/-/i1yu3z/-/index.html
This article says they attempted to rob the old man "at gunpoint."  The one killed was already going to trial for armed robbery.
He pulled a gun on the old man, he was justified in protecting himself and the two girls walking with him."

He never responded back after that.  Oh well, maybe others read the exchange and will think of things in a different light.

Remember... your life is worth SAVING!

Survived the Gun Show

Got to the gun show about 1:30 this afternoon and after driving around for several minutes, was able to get a parking spot.  Actually, I lucked into one that was not too far away.  I was at least still in the Expo's parking lot and not Walmart's. LOL

There was a line to get into the show.  Did not expect that at 1:30 on a Sunday, but there was a crowd!

Our friend that has space at the show was BUSY all weekend.  He was almost sold out of handguns by the end of the show today.  Of course part of that is because he has been there forever and is known, plus his prices are still very reasonable compared to a lot of the other dealers.  Some of the prices people were asking for their guns were ridiculous!

Speaking of prices... I was at the table where I bought my spare magazines last year and their prices have doubled!  I thought they were expensive then, but now.

Well... if the gun show is any indicator, the gun culture is still alive and well.  I still want to know where this "majority" is of people supporting gun control.

I will let you all know what happens.

Had to share this classic

For you DH

Am I crazy for even contemplating this?

I am considering becoming a chapter leader for a women's shooting club.

I am not sure what to think.  I want to, but at the same time am not sure about time commitments.  The lady I have exchanged emails with seems comfortable with the number of hours per week I could promise, so that is a good sign.

I guess I will not worry about that until after I find out about a range that my neighbor told me about that we might be able to use as our "host" range.

Details as they come about!

One more day to enter into the drawing!

The Gun Divas are sharing their swag from the SHOT show!

I am not usually a conspiracy theorist, but....

I am really starting to wonder about ALL these shootings that are going on!

I could almost see people being put up to it by the anti-rights...sorry, anti-guns groups to advance their cause.  There can not be THAT many copycats out there, can there???

Quote of the Decade

This was sent to me by my dear husband:

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America 's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure.  It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills.  It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies.  Increasing America 's debt weakens us domestically and internationally.  Leadership means that, "the buck stops here."  Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."
~ Senator Barack H. Obama, March    2006

But D.C. has some of the strictest gun control laws...

So how could this have happened?

Woman fatally shot in Northwest D.C.

Could it be that criminals don't care what the law says? Could it be that another law will not keep a criminal from breaking another law.

Classes have started up again.....

I am on the final leg of my journey to my Bachelor's degree!  I started four classes yesterday.  Yes, I am a glutton for punishment!

Not much to post otherwise.  Too many other bloggers do a better job of discussing what happens in the news, so I will just leave you with this thought:

Random Thoughts

Well, the crud has hit the Tea household!  I have been almost completely out of commission the last two days.  More yesterday, but today has only been a bit better.

Not much has been going on here except sickness.  Which is good since I could not handle anything at the moment.

(just reread this....not much in the way of "thoughts" but that sums up what I feel like)

Daily Inspiration

I like this one!

Inspirational Quote of the Day (Wed, 09 Jan 2013)
The difference between school and life? In school, you're taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you're given a test that teaches you a lesson.
Tom Bodett

Sounds Right to Me......

Totally taken from my brother on Facebook!  Although I am sure he got it from someone else. :-)

If a conservative doesn't like guns, they don't buy one. If a liberal doesn't like guns, then no one should have one.

If a conservative is a vegetarian, they don't eat meat. If a liberal is, they want to ban all meat products for everyone.

If a conservative sees a foreign threat, he thinks about how to defeat his enemy. A liberal wonders how to surrender gracefully and still look good.
